Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect beginning therapy?Your therapy journey is unique. Together, we will explore your personal history and current challenges to find the best path toward your goals. My aim is to help you transform your relationship with yourself and empower you to achieve lasting growth.
To help you clarify your goals for therapy, I have found it most effective to book a full 55-minute initial session rather than a 15-20-minute phone consultation. Once the session is booked, insurance and all necessary paperwork must be completed before our meeting.
Your first appointment is a chance for us to get to know each other and ensure we are a good fit. We’ll also cover practical details like scheduling, payment, and client confidentiality. The priority is to help you feel comfortable as you begin your journey toward feeling whole again.
How much are psychotherapy services?Relational and Individual Psychotherapy:
$200 per clinical hour
Do you take insurance?Insurance & Out-of-Pocket
Illinois:
Amana Psychotherapy is in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, Optum/United Health, Cigna, and Aetna. All other insurance companies, including Medicaid and Medicare, are out-of-network, and payment is expected at the time of service. Clients may access their insurance benefits through the Headway platform.
Texas:
Amana Psychotherapy does not accept insurance in Texas. Select insurance plans allow their members to file claims for reimbursement for therapy sessions, even if the provider is out-of-network. As part of Amana’s commitment to excellent care, clients with out-of-network reimbursement eligibility can file reimbursement claims at no additional cost, powered by Reimbursify. These claims are fully managed from submission to reimbursement.
Are there other fees for service?Coordination of Care
I provide up to two complimentary 30-minute consultations to coordinate care per calendar year with outside providers (i.e., psychotherapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, medical doctors, teachers, etc.). Any additional time will be billed at my regular per-minute rate.
15 minutes = $50
30 minutes = $100
45 minutes = $150
60 minutes = $200
Short term Disability
In Illinois, I am permitted as an LMFT to assist with a short-term disability claim. I will only assist with a short-term disability claim if you have been my client for at least 6 months and there is a valid and reasonable cause for the claim. Fees for short-term disability assistance start at $200, and this is not covered by insurance. Additional time spent on the claim will be billed at my regular per-minute fee
Do you have a late cancellation fee?All clients may cancel up to three sessions per year with less than 24 hours' notice without a fee.
After the three allotted missed sessions, if you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide at least 24 hours' notice. When notice is not provided within this timeframe, we are unable to offer the slot to another client in need.
Therefore, appointments missed or canceled with less than 24 hours' notice will be subject to a fee:
The late cancellation or no-show fee is $100, and is not billable to insurance.
What is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist?
A Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) is a mental health professional trained to assess and treat individuals, couples, and families through a relational, systemic lens. Unlike psychologists, who often emphasize assessment, diagnosis, and research, LMFTs focus on how patterns of interaction, communication, and attachment affect emotional well-being—centering relational dynamics in treatment. Compared to professional counselors, LMFTs receive more specialized training in couples and family systems. Social workers often incorporate case management and resource coordination, whereas LMFTs primarily provide psychotherapy. While all are licensed clinicians, LMFTs uniquely specialize in understanding problems within the context of relationships.
Do you offer sliding scale? To help reduce financial barriers, a limited number of sliding-scale time slots are offered. These times are prioritized for individuals from marginalized communities. For folks using the sliding-scale option, the rate is determined based on income. Please note that reduced-rate sessions are for self-pay clients only and cannot be billed to insurance.
